Normally intros start with "Born and raised in..." but being an army brat (a term used when you have a parent in the army, or in my case, both parents) my family moved around a bit in my early years. We eventually settled in Auckland, where I spent the majority of my time in NZ before moving across the ditch in 2008. Most of my 12 years here has been spent in the Gold Coast, though in 2017 I moved to Loganholme, which is where I'm based now.
Last year (2019), through planning my wedding, I discovered my affinity for crafting. DIY Bridesmaid proposal boxes were my first ever project and I loved the process so much that it became a hobby. Eventually I put my crafting skills to good use and made personalised gift boxes and decal signs for other Brides-To-Be. Then, I saw the amazing resurgence of normalising Te Reo Maori back in NZ and thought how awesome it would be to see our Reo on personalised gifts and homeware right here in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Enter, Sarah Makes. This is my creative outlet to practice what I enjoy, resulting in personalised gifts for your special someone and being able to help my fellow kiwis living in Australia incorporate our culture into our every day lives.
Initially I was only intending on selling labels but after my personal canisters that I used to display my labels generated just as much interest as the labels themselves, I decided to stock/make both. I'm stepping way out of my comfort zone with this one so we'll see how I go.
Please note, I do still have a full time corporate job as well as another side hustle in the events industry so please respect my turn around times regarding gift/label completions. I don't have a big production line, it's just me, so I'll do my best to fulfil your order as quickly as possible.
Lastly, thank you so much for joining me on this journey, I appreciate your support!
